Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Juice*

Coconut Extract : Derived from the milk or coconut “water” inside the hard exterior that is the endosperm or food for germination of the plant. It is highly nutritive, containing amino acids, sugars, vitamins and plant growth factors.

Coconut Oil : This coconut kernel extract is a natural lathering and cleansing ingredient, and is often blended with other fats. Coconut oil contains several different kinds of fatty acids.

Linoleic acid is one of the two fatty acids that the human body cannot synthesize and is also one of the fats found in coconut oil. Linoleic acid is an important structural fatty acid that makes up a component of the lipid layer that forms cell membranes.

The main fat in olive oil, oleic acid, is an omega-9 fatty acid also found in coconut oil, and has an antioxidant-boosting property.

Lauric acid is a medium-chain triglyceride that makes up 50 percent of the fatty acids found in coconut oil. It is also found in human breast milk, which may account for some of the immune-enhancing effects of breast-feeding infants.

Glycerin *

Glycerin is a building block of all fats and oils.It is produced through the saponification of vegetable oil like Coconut or Palm Oil. Glycerin is an excellent humectant and moisturizer that regulates the absorption and release of water in the skin.

Propanediol (Maize) Extract

Glycol alternative for formulations where non-petroleum based ingredients are desired. Benefits include its high purity, lack of skin irritation or sensitization, improved humectancy, excellent aesthetics and environmentally sustainable nature.

It is used as a humectant, emollient, and/or natural solvent in skin and hair care products and as a solvent for botanical extraction and dilution. It is also used as a carrier for active ingredients, as an ingredient in natural preservative systems and for developing natural esters.

Vaccinium Myrtillus (Blueberry) Fruit Extract

Blueberry  is a European berry shrub very similar to the blueberry or huckleberry found in the United States.

Therapeutic use of Bilberry goes back centuries with medicinal usage recorded as early as the beginning of the 16th century. Billberry is rich in polyphenols or flavonoids (anthocyanosides ) which are a class of highly effecient antioxidant molecules.

Chitin (from Aspergillus Niger) Extract

Chitin is the second most abundant biopolymer in nature, where it protects crustaceans, parasites, fungi, and other pathogens from the adverse effects of their environments, hosts, or both.

It has a remarkable compatibility with living tissue, and has been looked at for its ability to increase the healing of wounds. Chitosan is a processed form or chitin that is more water soluble than chitin.

Chitin-based ingredients are often sourced from shellfish, and therefore cannot be used in cosmetics products trying to steer clear of animal-derived ingredients. However, Phyto-Stem Skin Care products contain chitosan extracted from the vegetative part (mycelium) of a microscopic fungi Aspergillus niger.

Beta-glucan

Polysaccharides (sugar molecules) that naturally occur in the bran of cereal grains, the cell wall of baker's yeast, certain types of fungi and many kinds of mushrooms and bacteria. The cereal based betaglucans occur most abundantly in Barley and Oats and to a lesser degree in Rye and Wheat.
Beta- Glucans are powerful immunomodulators and are useful in skin care for their anti-inflammatory, soothing, calming and hydrating properties.

Manihol Esculenta (Tapioca) Root Starch Extract

Tapioca plant is a woody shrub of the Euphorbiaceae (spurge family) native to South America that is extensively cultivated as an annual crop in tropical and subtropical regions for its edible starchy tuberous root, a major source of carbohydrates.

Tapioca is a staple food in some regions and is used worldwide as a thickening agent, principally in foods and cosmetics.

Cistus Incanus (Rock Rose) Leaf / Stem / Flower

Cistus (from the Greek "Kistos") is a genus of flowering plants in the rockrose family Cistaceae, found on dry or rocky soils throughout the Mediterranean region, from Morocco and Portugal through to the Middle East, and also on the Canary Islands.

The Western plant Cistus Incanus strengthens the reduced antioxidative defence system found in mature skin. Reactive oxygen species are neutralised, thus preventing further damage to the skin barrier.

Gynostemma Pentaphyllum (JiaogulanorTwisting-vine-orchid) Leaf / Stem Extract

This plant is not just known as the immortality herb, but it also grants immortality: so the people of Guizhou Province in South West China drink Jiaogulan tea instead of the widespread green tea. Echinacea Angustifolia (Coneflower) Stem Cell Extract

Echinacea is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants in the daisy family, Asteraceae. They are endemic to eastern and central North America, where they are found growing in moist to dry prairies and open wooded areas.

Echinacea Angustifolia was widely used by the North American Plains Indians for its general medicinal qualities. In the 1930s echinacea became popular in both Europe and America as a herbal medicine.

Extracts obtained from the Echinacea stem cell cultures are characterised by the presence of echinacoside, chlorogenic acid, cynarin and 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, which offer antioxidant, radical scavenging and anti-inflammatory activity. They are also characterised by the presence of phytosterols, amino acides and polysaccharides, known for their moisturising and nourishing properties.

Clinical studies have proven Echinacea Angustifolia Stem Cell Extract to stimulate the synthesis of new collagen and to inhibite collagenase (responsible for collagen degradation).

Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Stem Cell Extract. This ingredient is extracted from the Gamay Teinturier Fréaux Grape from the Burgundy region in France. Undaria Pinnatifida (Wakame / Mekabu Seaweed) Extract

This seaweed is one of the richest known sources of in fucose. Fucose influences brain development (fucose is found in human breast milk); acts as an immune modulator; inhibits tumour growth and its spread; and enhances cell-cell communication.

High concentrations of fucose are found at the junctions between nerves, in the kidney and testes and in the outer layer of the skin.

Coffea Arabica (Coffee Fruit) Fruit Extract

Sea Buckthorn is a traditional medicinal plant in many European and Asian countries. A Combination of Omega 3, 6, 9 and 7, Sea buckthorn pulp oil contains 50 % unsaturated fatty acids, some of which are very rare in the plant kingdom.

• Sea buckthorn pulp oil contains more than 30 % of palmitoleic acid (C16: 1n-7/ omega-7). This very rare unsaturated fatty acid is a component of skin lipids. • Linoleic and linolenic acids (18:2, n-6 and n-3 / omega -6 and -3) are essential PUFA that are not synthesized by skin cells and must be provided as a nutrient. They are precursors of many other fatty acids; one of the most important being arachidonic acid (20:4, n-6), a PUFA with four double bonds. Ethyl Palmate (Organic Processed Vegetable Oil) Extract*

Ethyl palmate is oil-soluble and water-miscible and has a variety of applications in personal care and fragrance, as well as food. Derives from sustainable organic palm oil extracted from Elaeis guineensis grown in Brazil, it can be used in certain applications for personal care as a carrier, solvent, emulsifier, emollient and lubricant.

Centella Asiatica (Asiatic Pennywort) Flower Extract*

Also known as Gotu Kola or Tiger Grass, Centella Asiatica native to Southeast Asia, Australia, Madagascar and Africa.It is used in Indian traditional medicine for the treatment of several diseases and in dermatology for the healing of wounds, burns.

The main active ingredients contained in Centella asiatica are triterpenes asiatic acid and madecassic acid, together with triterpenoid ester glycosides - known as asiaticoside and brahminoside. The asiaticosides and triterpenes extracted from the plant have modulating properties on the development and metabolism of connective tissue, improve the synthesis of collagen and other tissue proteins by modulating the action of fibroblasts in the vein wall, and stimulate collagen remodeling in and around the venous wall.

It is especially the triterpenoids that are thought to stimulate the production of collagen I and assist with wound healing. They therefore improve wound repair, with a better re-epithialisation and a normalization of perivascular connective tissue, thus allowing an improvement of the venous wall tone and elasticity.

It is found that in poor connective tissue conditions, the triterpenes in Centella asiatica are able to renew the collagen, in quantity and quality, and restore tissue firmness and skin elasticity, improving skin appearance and comfort. Apart from this it also has anti-psoriatic properties.

Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract / Fruit Extract

Daucus Carota (Wild Carrot) Seed Extract

Carrot seed oil has a formative effect on the epidermal skin cells, stimulating cell growth.

It is one of the most regenerating oils that can be used in skincare and helps to improve the complexion, as it helps to remove toxic build-up in the skin and eliminates excess water from the tissue.

It is rich in beta-carotene as well as vitamins B, C, D and E and is most useful as a skin rejuvenator and extremely effective for dry and aging skin. Rubus Villosus (Blackberry) Fruit Extract

Rubus Villosus Fruit Extract is an extract of the fruit of the blackberry. Blackberry is a rambling vine with thumb-sized black composite "berries." The plant grows easily in temperate climates, and is often found in recently cleared areas.

The fruit is high in dietary fibre, carbohydrates and polyunsaturated fats.
Laboratory studies have found blackberries to be high in antioxidants, which may be due to the berries' anthocyanin content. Nutrients such as Vitamin A, Vitamine C, potassium and calcium are present in blackberries. In cosmetic formula, this fruit is used as a antioxidant, an anti-inflammatory and an astringent as well.

Sambucus Nigra (Elderberry) Fruit Extract

Elderberries are rich in a variety of phytonutrients that exhibit both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, such as caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid, and quercetin.

The fruit also contains anthocyanins, which have been shown to help boost the immune system.

Elderberries' antioxidants provide protection from free radicals that contribute to cell damage, aging and wrinkle formation. Bioflavonoids, which can be found in elderberries exhibit astringent properties that help tighten the skin and provide additional anti-wrinkle benefits.

Aronia Melanocarpa (Chokeberry) Fruit Extract

Derived from the berry native to eastern North America, black chokeberries have attracted scientific interest due to its deep purple, almost black pigmentation that arises from dense contents of phenolic phytochemicals, especially anthocyanins.

Total anthocyanin content in chokeberries is 1480 mg per 100 g of fresh berries, and proanthocyanidin concentration is 664 mg per 100 g (Wu et al. 2004, 2006). Both values are among the highest measured in plants to date. They are also rich in flavonoid anti-oxidants such as carotenes, luteins and zeaxanthins. Zeaxanthin has photo-filtering effects on UV rays and thus gives Aronia Melanocarpa extraordinary antioxidant strength that combats oxidative stress in the fruit during photosynthesis.

Hibiscus Esculentus (Hibiscus) Fruit Extract

Annual brightly coloured flowers with lobed leaves and woody stem, Hibiscus is an aromatic, astringent and cooling herb. Due to the I-hydroxy-acids, anthocyanocides and mucilages, it has possibilities to reduce the cohesion between the corneocytes, which affects the thickness of the layer and increases skin moisture. It improves skin flexibility and elasticity, as well as creates higher moisture levels in the skin.

The anthocyanocides have astringent, anti-inflammatory and free radical scavenging, as well as enzyme inhibition properties and are especially useful to inhibit elastase and hyaluronidase. Finally, the high mucilage content enhances the retention of the skin’s hydric content. This makes the herb useful against the effects of aging.

Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Fruit Extract

Prunus Serotina (Wild Black Cherry) Fruit Extract

The wild black cherry takes its name from the color of both its edible fruit and its bark. It is native to eastern North America from eastern Canada through southern Quebec and Ontario; south through the eastern United States to Texas and central Florida; with small populations in Arizona and New Mexico; and in the mountains of Mexico and Guatemala.

Lemon Fruit Extract is a source of naturally occurring Citric Acid. Citric Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) with a mild exfoliating effect on the skin. The peel is comprised of invigorating essential oils, made up of components such as Limonene, Citral and Coumarin.

Black currant (Ribes nigrum) is a fruit native to woodlands. In addition to the anthocyanin glycosides which are responsible for its color, black currant concentrate also contains sugars and acids (including citric acid) typical of fruits.

The fruit of Black Currant is rich in nutrients such as saccharides, organic acids, vitamins, flavonoids and mineral. Black Currant Oil is an uncommonly rich source of Gamma- Linolenic acid (GLA) and other important polyunsaturated fatty acids (Omega-6 and Omega-3). It encourages healthy microcirculation, assists in detoxifying skin tissues, promotes anti-inflammatory actions to relieve accelerated free radical damage, soothes.

This oil is known to soothe and improve skin resilience.

Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Fruit Extract

Native to Persian Empire in what is today Iran, Iraq, Greece and Turkey, among other countries, the pomegranate plant has been cultivated by humans for millennia. Today, pomegranates are widely grown throughout India and Middle East.

The most coveted part of the tree is the fruit itself which contains hundreds of seeds encased in juicy arils. These seeds are rich in punicic acid, polyphenols and have strong anti-oxidant properties that help promote cell renewal and regeneration. In studies pomegranate seed oil was shown to stimulate keratinocyte proliferation thereby promoting regeneration of epidermis. Helps to repair skin and even out the skin tone.

Coconut Acid (from Coconut Oil) Extract

Coconut Acid is a mixture of fatty acids derived from Coconut Oil. Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, which is known for being anti-viral, antibacterial and anti-fungal.

Tetrahydropiperine (Black Pepper) Extract

Black Pepper essential oil is extracted from the fruit of Piper nigrum plant (Piperaceae family) by steam distillation.

Astaxanthin, a member of the carotenoid family, is a dark-red pigment which is the main carotenoid found in the marine world of algae and aquatic animals. This pigment is commercially produced from the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis, the richest known natural source for Astaxanthin.

Because of its unique structure, Astaxanthin provides a wide range of antioxidant benefits and may play a key role in the protection of cell membranes against free radical attack.

The chemical compound silicon dioxide, also known as silica, is an oxide of silicon. It has been known for its hardness since antiquity. Silica is a trace mineral, which means the body only needs a very small amount of it to stay healthy.

Silica is found most predominantly in the connective tissues - skin, blood vessels, cartilage, bone, teeth, tendons and hair. Silica is really beneficial for the health of blood vessel walls (the aorta is has really high concentrations of silica).

It is also required by the nails, hair and skin to stay in good condition.

Citric Acid

Obtained from fruit juice, this plant acid serves as a natural preservative and astringent, and it balances the pH of the skin.

Saccharide Hydrolysate

Saccharide Hydrolysate is an invert sugar derived by the hydrolysis of sucrose by acid, enzyme, or other method of hydrolysis. It is characterized by a content of fructose and glucose.
This ingredient is used, in cosmetic formula, as humectant (retaining or preserving moisture).

Lecithin

Lecithin is a plant phospholipid derived from soybeans. It acts as a natural emulsifier in creams and lotions as well as sothing and moisturizing agent on the skin.

Sodium Benzoate

Sodium benzoate is widely used as a food preservative and has been in use for years due to its strong activity against yeast, mold, and bacteria. Derived from a reaction of benzoic acid with sodium hydroxide, sodium benzoate is actually the sodium salt of benzoic acid.

This acid is found naturally in low levels in many fruits (plum, prune, cinnamon, apple, ripe clove ...).

Sodium benzoate is also used as a preservative in cosmetics and personal care product formulas. It is not bactericidal, only bacteriostatic (capable of inhibiting the growth or reproduction of bacteria). It’s different from bactericidal (capable of killing bacteria outright).
It has fungistatic activity as well.

Phenethyl Alcohol

Phenethyl alcohol (PEA) is a simple aromatic primary alcohol. It’s an organic compound and is prepared by biotransformation from L-phenylalanine using immobilized yeast called “Saccharomyces cerevisiae”. It is perhaps the most useful yeast, having been instrumental to baking and brewing since ancient times.

Phenethyl Alcohol prevents or retards bacterial growth, and thus protects cosmetics and personal care products from spoilage. Phenethyl Alcohol also imparts a fragrance to a product.

Maltodextrin

Maltodextrin is a natural polysachharide from plant starch that is used to improve consistancy of various products. In addition maltodextrins are employed for encapsulation of light and moisture sensitive benefit agents.

Cyclodextrin (Cyclodextrin) From Starch

Cyclodextrins are starch derivatives, composed of several sugar molecules.
Cyclodextrins have the ability to form inclusion complexes with a broad variety of organic compounds is used to increase stability and solubility of cosmetic actives and also decrease sensitivity to light and oxidation.

Lipophilic vitamins are essential in skin care products because of their nature as a free-radical scavenger or to the skin’s barrier function.

However, retinol, tocopherol and linoleic acid for instance are sensitive to light and unstable against oxidants. Vitamin F has the tendency to turn rancid and this prevents its use in cosmetic preparations. But in the form of a molecular inclusion compound with a- or g-cyclodextrin, the vitamins are effectively protected against deterioration by light or oxidation.

Decyl Glucoside (Corn sugar) Corn Starch Extract

Decyl glucoside is a fatty polyglycoside prepared by reacting cornstarch with glucose and a natural fatty alcohol derived from coconuts.
Decyl glucoside is an extremely mild and gentle non-ionic surfactant (compound that the interfacial tension between two liquids).

Isomalt (Sugar Alcohol) Extract

Isomalt is a mixture of polysaccharides produced by the enzymatic rearrangement of sucrose.
